a beautiful new Holiday Musical!
Celebrate Love and Friendship this Christmas
Coming up next at Great Escape Stage Company in Marshall is “The Story of My Life”, a heartwarming two-man musical being performed for the first time in this area. With music & lyrics by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill, “The Story of My Life” closed on Broadway in 2009 after a limited run.
This beautiful holiday musical tells the story of two childhood friends and how that friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author and Alvin Kelby was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship – and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has – his stories of Alvin – to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical, “The Story of My Life” is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the angels who change our lives forever.
Directed by Debbie Culver and with Musical Direction by Elena Solero, the GESC production will feature two area favorites – Alan Elliott in the role of Alvin and Randy Lake (GESC Artistic Director) in the role of Thomas.
In a series of flashbacks both comic and poignant, Thomas recounts the course of their friendship from youthful infatuation to disillusionment and estrangement, ultimately finding redemption in the stories that shaped their lives. One New York critic predicted, 'After experiencing the show, see if you don't find yourself moved to Google the name of some long-lost friend with whom you simply lost touch. ‘The Story of My Life’ inspires us to reconnect with those who were part of the earliest chapters of our own life stories'."
As Culver reports, “Our production begins performances Thursday, December 1 and plays eight times through Sunday, December 11. It’s totally appropriate for audiences 12 and up, and we hope it’s as memorable for area audiences as last year’s production of ‘A Christmas Memory’ was.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $14 for students 18 and under. The show plays Thursday thru Saturday at 8:00 PM (with a special 9:00 PM curtain time on Friday, December 2, after the Merchant’s Open house in Downtown Marshall), as well as Sunday matinee performances beginning at 3:00 PM. “The Story of My Life” is a 90 minute chamber piece with no intermission.
